TOP GUN FLATHEAD COMP RETURNS 25th August, Auction 8th August

After the success of the 2012 comp it returns on the 25th August ! Top Gun Flathead Comp 1 day shoot out! Buy a top gun at auction or take them on with your own team! Your chance to fish with some of the top gun Flathead anglers from the Flathead Classic, We will be auctioning off a bunch of excellent anglers who have consistently done well over the years in the Classic. Have you been left wondering how the top anglers do it at the classic? Guys like Ross McCubbin , David Green, Ben Job  are consistent top 10 finishers at the classic and have a wealth of knowledge on the local waterways and chasing Flathead. This is your opportunity to learn from these guys and our other top guns and get yourself ready for the 2013 Flathead Classic.

If you are the successful bid at the auction you will team up with the top gun on their boat in a one day Flathead comp with cash prizes on August 25. The 2 or 3 person team comp is open to all comers whether you choose to buy a top gun or fish with your mates.

Join the fun at the auction on August 8th (at the Flathead Classic launch Night) and bid to score a Top Gun for you or you and a mate to compete with on comp day August 25. All anglers have a reserve price of $80 which covers entry to the comp.

Top Gun Angler Auction:

When: Flathead Classic Launch Night Thursday 8th August

Where:  Doug Burts Tackleworld Nind St Southport

Time: ‘Sausage sizzle’ from 6.30, Meeting will start from 7.15pm. We finish the night off with the auction

Process: Top Gun Auction will see 10 top guns randomly drawn and then auctioned off throughout the evening. Starting bids are at $80 which covers team entry and lunch. All winning bids must be paid on the night. Remember 2 or 3 people can fish from one boat, so you can bid for a top gun solo or pool your $ with a mate to improve your chances.

Silent Auction Bids will be accepted to [email protected] up until 3pm on August 8th silent bids are made only with a firm commitment to honor (those who don’t will be named and shamed). Subject line of email must include: Auction Bid: Angler name. Email must include name and contact details to be valid and the bid total.

Top Guns

David Green or “Greeny” as he is better known has had more top 10 finishes in the Flathead Classic than any other angler, so it would be a game man that would bet against him not finishing high up again this year! He is a national fishing journalist and highly respected in the fishing community, a quick check of the boat for hidden microphones might be in order prior to fishing! He has incredible local knowledge and is equally at home trolling or flicking soft plastics. Word has the “Yoda” of flathead fishing has been slaying them of late and has even been grooming the next generation by sharing a day on the water with Stone, good work young padawan!!!! Expect Greeny to go for a fair whack, so don’t forget to wear pants with extra deep pockets. A worthy investment for anyone for anyone wanting to learn more about flathead fishing!

Christian Cross – Anyone looking for a comfy ride, then Christian is your man. This easy going bloke has consistently finished in the top 10 in the Flathead Classic. He is an all round angler who specialises in deepwater techniques.

Ben Job – A name synonymous with the flathead classic, having fished every classic since its inception. Add to his many top 10 finishes, he can boast winning the Flathead Classic as both a junior and senior. Ben is a BIG fish specialist who is adept at both trolling and flicking plastics. Anyone who seriously wants to finish high up the leaderboard will seriously consider mortgaging the house to spend a day out with Ben.

Kevin Ballantine – Local tackle shop owner is another member of flathead fishing royalty whose intimate knowledge of the gold coast has seen him consistently place in the top 10 of the Flathead Classic.
For the fluff chuckers out there, Kev’s your man…a wizard of the long wand, who is also very comfortable relaxing on the troll or even flinging the odd plastic. A staunch supporter of the club and keen supporter of junior anglers, so raid the kids piggy banks and put in a bid!
Danny Sands – the reigning Top Gun champion will be keen to go back to back and hold his title. Danny’s CV also boasts a win in the Flathead Classic and numerous top 5 finishes. He is adept at trolling and plastics fishing, so versatility is his middle name! add to this a very comfy ride out on the water and you can expect Danny to a popular choice for anyone serious to learn about flathead fishing. Sell any old fishing tackle you have laying around, heck trade in your mother in law, but whatever you do bring a fat wallet to secure Danny, you won’t be disappointed!

Guy McConnell – This high profile angler is sponsored by Sebile and boasts several high finishes in the Classic. Guy is an allrounder, who’s specialty is deepwater techniques, but is also has a lot of knowledge in trolling and using plastics. Get in fast to beat Stone, I reckon he’ll hatch an extra batch just to ensure he’s on board!

Shane Gartner – Shane has fished all but 1 Flathead Classic over the years, culminating in his maiden win 2 years ago. He manufacture s Pig lures, so I’m sure he’ll have a few secret weapons in his arsenal to use. His preferred style is trolling however has been known to fling the odd franger in his time! He is renowned for inventing the “Short troll” and as they say the greatest form of flattery is imitation….well others can only aspire. If the fishing is slow, then at least there’s a great yarn in that I am sure.

Top Gun Flathead Comp

When: August 25

Where: Volunteer Marine Rescue Base Seaworld Drive, The Spit. Put in at the boat ramp at the spit enter VMR from the side gate near the beach.

Time: Registration from 6.00am, Briefing 6.30am, Field underway between 6.50-7.00am, Back to Base by 2.30pm.

Cost: $80 includes lunch and a drink, covers 2 or 3 people teams.

Comp Rules: It is a catch, photograph and release comp chasing best 5 legal Flathead. You will need a digital camera, blank SD card and a Brag Mat. The comp is Lure and Fly only and trolling is permitted. The ‘captain’/boat skipper is responsible for boat safety and ensure operation within the law including PFD’s.

The comp is a cash prize comp and will pay to third. A ‘prize’ will also be given for biggest Flathead. Boundaries are the same as the Flathead Classic power lines Russell Island to Nerang River

Prize Pool: Is dependent on the total # teams entered + the selling price of Top Gun anglers. 70% of entry money will be returned to the field. Conservatively a 30 boat field will have a $2000 prize pool but could be much more! Great Value Comp!
