20th Anniversary Gold Coast Flathead Classic

337174_404159216317912_1478636791_o-1This year is a special year for the Gold Coast Sportsfishing Club as we celebrate the 20th anniversary of the iconic event that is the Gold Coast Flathead Classic. Whether you have fished the event before or never fished it this year will be a great year to join in the fun. The event will be run from the Southport Broadwater just north of the aquatic centre redevelopment  in the parkland water side near the Heritage listed Southport bathing pavilions. We will come together on the afternoon of Wednesday October 2nd for the registration dinner and briefing. Then each fishing day Thurs 3rd-sat 5th Oct you return to the event precinct for the a meal and event activities including giveaways fun comps and raffles. if you haven’t fished the event before our boundaries are the top of the Nerang River to the power lines east and west of Russell Island. Our comp is a catch photograph and release comp and each team needs a digital camera with a clean memory card. All fish are photographed on the tournament ruler and result metered on the team members capture sheet. It is essential details are entered clearly any that cannot be deciphered are not counted. You are required to return capture sheets and memory cards by a designated time each day. Start times are first cast times, you are able to put in at any ramp and be on the water at anytime however you cannot have a line in the water before the start time. this tournament is a lure and fly comp only. Entry fees include a tournament shirt, 3 dinners and 1 Lunch and each team receives a team bag full of goodies thanks to our sponsors. The number of teams are capped due to the infrastructure and sponsorship required. All of our prizes including the major Blue Fin Boat giveaway are on a random basis. we have a number of categories for fishing efforts that are rewarded  with trophies. Whilst the fishing is great at this time of year often seeing the biggest Flatties of the year netted, for many it is the social and fun side of the comp including the get together at the tournament precinct is the highlight. The festivities are family friendly and we welcome guests to the precinct, meal tickets are available for purchase for non competing visitors. A real feature of this tournament are the increasing number of juniors getting involved, being the school holidays it is a great time to get out and fish as a family. Our entries costs represent great value for money when you take into account what you get in return , we offer early bird entry and there are a couple of price jumps leading up to the event. We prefer teams to enter online as it puts your details straight into our data base saving time on our end And ensuring accuracy. 2013 will be the first time ever we include a kayak section. kayaks or canoes must be self powered and are for 1 person only.if you fish from a canoe or kayak with 2 people you are counted as a boat and compete in the 2 person team section. Whether you are a diehard classic tragic, or someone who hasn’t fished in awhile or at all this year is the year to get involved in the Gold Coast Flathead Classic.
