Flathead Classic Are you Ready! responses to FAQ’s

Three weeks to go and we will be on the water chasing Lizards. I bet you are all out there stacking the tackle boxes, my tip bring more than what you think you will need especially when it comes to jigheads.

Whether you have never fished it  or it has been awhile since you have fished you may have some questions .Each year we have a bunch of new folk come and join the Flathead Classic family and many have a bunch of questions that come through the email in regards to what, who, where, etc etc so I am going to do my best to provide a list of responses to FAQ’s.

  • Where is the event precinct?: GR Thompson Park Marine ParadeSouthport QLD  4215. This is in the Broadwater Parklands reserve the precinct will be set up just south of Howards Landing/Macs Bait  Which is opposite Railway St in Southport. *Just north of our old Club house which has been resumed for the Commonwealth Game development.
  • Where do I park? There is no onsite parking at the precinct however we have secure parking north at the end of the parklands towards the caravan park enter at North St/end Smith St
  • Where Can I stay? There is no onsite camping at the precinct. The Gold coast offers a great range of accomodation. A popular spot is the Broadwater Caravan Park, Rays Resort
  • What does my entry cover? Your entry covers your participation in the fishing tournament, a 20th Anniversary special edition Tournament Shirt, A Team Tournament Bag. 4 professionally catered meals Wed, Thur, Fr : Dinner Sat BBQ Lunch. Your chance to share in the minor and major random draw prizes.
  • Do I have to go to the Briefing Registration night? Yes in the very least sdomeone from the team must be there to collect team bag, tournament ruler and shirts plus hear the briefing.
  • Where do I put the boat in? There is not a set point to meet in the morning it is a free start meaning you can put in wherever you like as long as you fish within the tournament boundaries and set times ie first cast not before 6.30am.
  • I hear I need a digital camera can I use my phone? The simple answer is no unless your new age phone a a SD card (not mini SD) that can come out and go into a laptop card reader.

    • SD cards etc must be blank at the start of the tournament
    • Mark your SD card for identification, you check these pics in every day with your capture sheets
    • Cameras must be of suitable pixel that pictures are clear and ruler numbers can be seen
    • Make sure you bring your charger!
    • All fish  40cm + must be photographed on the tournament ruler with the daily token
    • Please take shots of the angler with the fish for our gallery
  • What happens at the end of the fishing session? At the end of the day boats head back  to the ramps and you have a set time to return your capture sheets and photos to the data team. Some people choose to just stay on and join the festivities with a few coldies others take their boats back to camp/home etc then return. Dinner is served at approx 6.00pm. You will find there is not a lot of spare time and staying at the precinct is your best option.
  • What happens each night? You will be served a yummo meal and dessert on real plates with real knives and forks. We ask you to return these to the plate stations at the end of each course. The Bar will be open from your return from fishing This year our Beer sponsor is Great Northern. We will have a bunch of random giveaways, stories from the days fishing, a Casting comp bought to you by 13 Fishing and a Reel to Reel relay bought to you by Austackle. We have entertainment, raffles and it is a good time to catch up with other anglers and hear the stories of the day. This comp is well known for its welcoming culture, so dont hold back get int here and meet some new friends.
  • Where can we fish? Our boundaries are outlined clearly in the tournament magazine but in a nutshell anywhere in the Nerang River and estuaries that flow from there North through the Broadwater up to the Jumpinpin area north to the power lines east side and west side of Russell Island. There is no fishing beyond boundaries in the seaway and Jumpinpin Bar.
  • How do I know you have my entry? We do not send individual emails on receipt of entry the method to check is to log onto either our website go to the Tab 2013 Flathead Classic registered teams or our facebook page 20th Anniversary Gold Coast Flathead Classic. This page is manually updated every few days please allow for the lag.
  • Safety/Insurance: you are covered by our insurance when at the event precinct however not on the water. It is the responsibility of the boat skipper to ensure the boat is appropriately insured, registered and has the necessary safety gear and a vessel that is safe. With 500+ Anglers we do draw the attention of the Marine authorities and the Water Police.
  • Can we change membership of the team throughout the event? This is not possible for senior teams however we do allow juniors to alternate to give different kids a go.
  • Last comments:
    • Ultimately this is a  a fun comp we are not fishing for sheep stations or big prizes, they are given away randomly. Please compete in that spirit it is one we are proud of.
    • The weather can often be a mixed bag, Hot, Wet, Windy, and even cold.  please come prepared for all of that .
    • No BYO alcohol can be bought into the event precinct
    • Smoking is permitted in designated areas please use the sand bins for butts and not the ground.
