Looking Back and Moving Forward: A Year of Growth and Milestones
As the annual AGM approaches, it’s the perfect time to reflect on a year of growth, achievements, and exciting developments for the Gold Coast Sportfishing Club. Together, we’ve reignited the spirit of fishing in our community while solidifying our place as a leading club in the local fishing scene.
A Growing Community
Over the past year, the club has seen significant positive momentum. This is evident in the growing attendance at our monthly club nights, the overwhelming enthusiasm for our Mega Members’ Draws, and the popular guest presenters.
A Milestone Year for the Flathead Classic
One of our key goals for 2024 was to reach 300 teams for the 30th anniversary of the Gold Coast Flathead Classic. With the unwavering dedication of the committee and our loyal helpers, we proudly achieved this target, making it a milestone year that will be remembered for years to come.
As we review the success of the Classic, the committee is now looking ahead to ensure the event remains sustainable for the next five years. Given the growing size and time commitment required to host the Classic, we are exploring the possibility of engaging an event company to manage logistics. Rest assured, the committee would retain full control over the event’s direction to preserve its essence and legacy.
Embracing Technology for the Future
Another significant focus this year was improving our digital systems and communication platforms. Evolve Technologies conducted an external audit of our email systems, providing invaluable insights and solutions. We’re now in the final stages of implementing their recommendations, ensuring smoother and more efficient communication.
The Club and Classic websites also underwent a much-needed revamp. Built on Squarespace for its user-friendly and legacy-focused design, the new platforms provide seamless navigation for members and visitors alike.
We’ve also audited our CRM systems, email communication tools, and tournament tracking programs. The goal was to streamline expenses, consolidate platforms, and create an intuitive online ecosystem. These updates are designed to support both the front-end user experience and back-end functionality, ensuring a smooth transition for incoming committees.
Financial Stability and Future Goals
Through strict auditing and the implementation of new cash-handling systems, the club has reached a positive financial turning point. These measures not only strengthened our financial health but also set the stage for future growth.
While there’s still work to be done, we’re proud of how far we’ve come. The committee is committed to building a welcoming and inclusive environment, encouraging participation from all ages and walks of life.
