A Classic, Classic! that’s 20 years

Good Morning All,Emoji

I am happy to report that the 20th Anniversary Gold Coast Flathead Classic was delivered successfully and the feedback so far is overwhelmingly positive. This year saw a record 503 anglers compete across the 21/2 day of what proved to be quite tough fishing conditions catching  3817 Flathead. Despite being in temporary housing due to the Commonwealth Games development punters reported that our precinct was the best yet!  Results can be found on our home page on the top tabs.

big 2013

The largest fish caught over the comp was by Brenden Whyte Team Evinrude Whyte Boys at 95cm this photo was posted on our event Facebook page on Sunday 6th and in 48 hrs almost 20,000 people had seen the pic.
The second largest fish was a 94cm fish caught on the last day in the final 10 mins of the comp by Con Voukelatos .

We have utilised social media to promote the event ans our sponsors, many sponsors ran their own promotion during the event. In the month of the Classic our webpage received just over 5000 visits and our facebook event page doubled in size. This event continues to grow both in size but also awareness. Thanks also to our media partners: Fishing World, Fishing Monthly Group, Bush and Beach and Channel 9 Gold Coast for your support.
Our major prizes of a Blue Fin Wild Cat , Evinrude E-tec 50 HP, Oceanic Trailer and a Bonza wrap was much sort after by the crowd and the random punter Ryan Dixon who walked away with it was absolutely blown away! He is replacing a basic tinny with this package and will be proudly fishing it very soon. The Junior random draw winner young Aiden Cross walked away with a Blue Fin Cat fish, Evinrude 3HP and an Oceanic trailer the look on his face was priceless. All of our random major draw winners were rewarded with some great products including Eskies, Fishing gear and marine electronics.
All of this wouldn’t be possible without the support of our sponsors. Thanks to their support we are able to offer an excellent tournament that represents great value for money for the angler. Our major prize draw is a real feature and our tournament bag a  stand out. We are  a small non for profit sporting association who are very proud of the 20 year history and iconic status of this tournament. We would like to think with your help we are promoting a positive image of recreational fishing and contributing to the industry more broadly.
We would like to also acknowledge the support of the Gold Coast City Council and  a big thanks to the team from Catering by Clancy they make the process of feeding 550 people look easy! It was great to come back each day to such a hearty and tasty meal. Also our bar staff, committee members and families a big thank you for the efforts you put in to make this event  a success.
We will be back next year Commonwealth games development permitting! Date yet to be conformed but most likely the same weekend if all plays out well.
