An Interesting Flathead Fact

On the 29th of June 1996 Mick Dohnt tagged a 44cm flattie
tag no. FH 05383. L Smythe recaptured this fish in October the following year, it had grown to 50.5cm. Then, David Green recaptured the same fish on the 1st of August 2004 when it measured 85cm. This growth of 41cm took 8years +.

If this fish was 3 years old when tagged that makes it 11years when Greenie recaught it. As these fish age they seem to put on bulk, become really solid & start to broaden in the head; we hear remarks like its head was “as broad as a shovel”. For this fish to reach that magical 1meter mark she may have to celebrate her 15^th birthday.
