Commonwealth Games

No doubt you have heard that the Gold Coast has been the succesful bid city for the 2018 Commonwealth games. This will see a lot of redevelopment of the Southport Broadwater Parklands area, which includes the area surrounding our clubhouse and the venue we share with the Southport Amateur Fishing Club! This has huge impacts for the planning of the 2012 and beyond Flathead Classic’s etc.

 The committee will discuss this at our next meeting and decide on an approach to formally contact the Gold Coast City Council to seek their support for alternative venues etc. We don’t have a lot of answers right now but what is important is for our club to be strong! Strong membership and a good community presence, we need to be seen as an integral offering to the Gold Coast fishing community and thier families as well as the larger contribution we make to tourism etc by bringing vistors to the Gold Coast for the iconic Gold Coast Flathead Classic. What can you do? Promote your club and help us build our membership, attend club events in big numbers!
