Don’t forget your digital camera for the Classic!

10 days to go until we gather for the 2012 Gold Coast Flathead Classic. As you pack up your gear don’t forget to check your camera, SD card, batteries and charger. We always like to have a back up camera on the boat as well as you just never know. This year we are enforcing the blank SD card rule as it just takes far too long with with a field this big to scroll through your photo collection. SO please take the time to clear your card.

We would also like to encourage you to take pics of people and fish, not just fish on the ruler. We are always on the look out for good pics for the tournament magazine and our website so please take the time to take a few good pics.

Scene Set up

  • Be sure that when you take a picture of an angler holding  a fish that the sun is not behind them. If you can get the sun at an angle from either side of them or in the face of your pic will have much better lighting. A built in, automatic flash is also very helpful. With it you get a flash when it is dark enough so you don’t have to worry about your pictures being too dark.
  • Set up your picture. Think about what you want in the picture. Do you want a lot of background scenery, or is the fish or person most important? Do you want to see the lure the fish was caught on, the tackle used, the boat ? Set up is critical.
  • The angler should take off their cap, if possible. Caps throw a dark shadow on the face – that is what they are supposed to do – but that can mess up a picture. Also take off sunglasses or regular glasses. That helps get a better picture of your face.
  • Make sure you do not put your fingers or hands across the fish otherwise your hands will take up the shot Hold the fish out but not pushed too far forward. If you are using a towel, lip grips or gloves be sure they not dominate the shot.

Taking the Shot

  • Try different positions of holding the fish, and the photographer should experiment with different angles
  • Take lots of pics you can always sort and delete back at your computer
