Spanked by Big Bream in Forster!

Fellow club member Darren ‘Dizzy Borg’ and I recently returned from the Forster BETS round , unfortunately not with the result we were after, but coming away with a few positives none the less. Foster is a beautiful place with plenty of fishing options, I’m looking forward to returning some time in the future. During the pre-fish we caught plenty of bream, flatties and had a ball catching tasty whiting on deep diving cranks and ghost blades. They were so thick we had to move because they wouldn’t leave our lures alone! The local Wallis Lake oysters were delicious – and yes i did pay for them! No rack raiding here!

We gave ourselves a time limit for fishing the lake, but with conditions not to our liking, decided to make the move to the racks where we knew there were plenty of fish ready to bite. We landed a few fish early, and the bite was so aggressive, we were certain that we’d fill our bag in good time. If only a few smaller fish could’ve bitten our lures, we would’ve had a better result, but we were plagued by big unstoppable fish and were unable to fill our bag, a critical error.

I was pleased to finally experience rack fishing in a teams event (where you actually get a shot at the fish, as opposed to my non-boater rack experiences!) and as expected learnt a few hard lessons dealt out by some beastly, unforgiving Forster bream. For all the fish (and lures) I lost, I was pleased to land a good fish from deep within the racks on comp day.

The long drive home gave us plenty of time to lament and consider the errors of our ways, and we’ll be working extra hard to make up some points in the coming rounds. We currently sit 7th on the overall BETS series table and want to give the Grand Final a good go so stay tuned for updates on our progress.
Sorry, no pics of the whiting, we ate the evidence 🙂
