Team TT Lures make it Back to Back Dash for Cashes!

Dash for Cash #1

The Gold Coast Sportfishing Club sponsored by TT Lures/ZMan are proud to be bringing anglers the Dash for Cash events in 2011. A field of 22 boats were set on their way for a great day of chasing spawn bite bream. Team TT Lures Tracey Mammen and Darren Borg made it ‘back to back’ wins with a 3.18 kg bag to take out the first Dash for Cash for the year. The team fished the Jumpinpin area and ventured to the Bay only to turn back because of the calm conditions. They kicked off the day with a strategy of targeting big fish early. However working their favorite big fish banks didn’t pay off for the pairing, this saw the team revert back to banks they had pre-fished. Using this approach they were able to bag 5 smaller size fish. It took 2 hrs to get their bag and once achieved they went in search of upgrades and hoped for a kicker fish or two. After the tide changed so too did the bite, fish went from feeding mode to a reaction bite. This saw the team change their strategy, moving to structure and where Tracey secured the biggest fish of the day with a well placed lure right on in front of the fish.

Once the team found the fish they turned over unbelievable numbers boating close to 100 bream for the day! This meant the team were regularly checking fish on the stick and using the balance beam to make sure they were always keeping the heaviest fish. Whilst time consuming they knew this effort would pay off. Team TT Lures fished 4lb-8lb leaders with  1/16th up to 1/6th #1 TT Jigheads teamed with Gulp Minnows and Shrimps to lure their fish.  They utilised the new toy on the boat the Lowrance HDS 8 with StructureScan technology, they reported the side-view was key to their success. Only fitting this the night before the pre-fish the team was amazed how the technology eliminated the guess work allowing them to cast directly to fish they had picked up on the side-view imaging.

In second place was team Anders Financial, Greg Byrne and Ben Cronk who fished structure to gather their bag of 3.04kg also bagging the Big Bream and taking home the TT Lures/ZMan prize pack valued at $450.

Third place went to Sunshine Coast anglers Mitch Martens and Colin Bald, Team Buckets. The boys fished the Runaway Bay area to get their consistent bag of fish. Second and Third Biggest Bream taking home  2 x $90 TT Lure/ZMan packs was team Nitro who placed 5th overall. It was great to see some new anglers to the sport with a good number of teams fishing their first ever Bream tournament.

The GCSFC would like to thank all the members who assisted and supported the event and a big thanks also to the Volunteer Marine Rescue crew who assisted with the start. Special thanks to our sponsors TT Lures/ZMan for their support not only of the Dash for Cash events but also for their sponsorship of the club. These events are built on the principle of the more teams involved the bigger the payout, so come along and get involved!

The second Dash for Cash event has been postponed to 24th July due to the Gold Coast Marathon making logistics impossible, please check out www.goldcoastsportfishingclub.com.au or our facebook group page for full event details. Don’t forget the Dash for Cash Flathead in October following the Flathead Classic date TBC.
