Austackle Dash for Cash Results

The 2012 Austackle Dash for Cash proudly bought to you by the Gold Coast Sportfishing Club saw 24 teams take to the water in search of a bag of Gold Coast Bream. A good days fishing was had by the field with every team returning to the scales with fish to weigh and 21 of the teams returning with a full bag of 5 fish. A crisp winters morning and a surprise southerly saw our teams leave the line rugged up.

Most of the field headed north from the start line at VMR with some stopping of at the Seaway while others ventured to the Pin area. The rest of the filed snuck south to fish the trawlers and the Nerang River. Surprisingly the canals turned over the better quality bags for the comp.

It was young brothers David and Nick Griffin of team Bricked  who convincingly took 1st place and a nice wad of cash. The boys also took out Big Bream with a nice .960 gm fish with the first cast of the day. This early success saw the confidence build and the boys worked the northern canals throwing plastics at pontoons and structure spot hopping around Sovereign Is to find their bag.  In second place our Easter Bream winner Team Evo/Shads the brothers Wolhuter mustered a good bag of Nerang and southern canal bream weighing in 2.89 kg, unfortunately despite best efforts the boys couldn’t find a kicker fish, their best weighing .700. Gold Coast local Scott Butler teamed up with sponsor rep Kenneth Thompson from Simrad, fishing as Simrad/Zipbaits/Lox Rods the team had a bag by 7.25 am and looked forward to a day of upgrade fishing. They threw Zipbaits for the best part of the day and Ken was pleased to land his first Bream on a surface lure.

After collecting a lot of feedback from punters this year we ,made a few changes to the format one being paying out to fifth place. This kicked in once a field of 20 boats competed. Team Bonzo Gary and John fished from Gary’s new Triton and they too used their simrad sounders to their advantage to find their fish. In 5th place 16 year old Mitch Romano fished alongside his Mum Kim who landed the teams biggest bream of the day .815. Mitch is loving his fishing and has recently started competing as a non-boater in the ABT.

All up another great days fishing and a well delivered comp! A big thanks to the VMR for hosting us once again, a donation has been made on behalf of all the anglers. Also a big thanks to all the club and committee members who got out to support the event, without your enthusiasm and support such events wouldn’t occur. Lastbut not least a big thanks to Austackle, if you have not checked out their new Bream range where have you been hiding?great tournament quality gear at a price that won’t break the bank or make the wife angry, please support the sponsors that support us and Austackle are one of the clubs biggest supporters!
