Day 1 at the Classic

An interesting day weather wise for the first day of the classic, sun, northerly winds and even a prolonged downpour greeted our anglers on day 1 of the 2011 Carlton Mid Flathead Classic. The strong northerlies made it tough going for some teams and the fish were hard to find in numbers. Team Dead Fishy top the team leader board after a day of turning  numbers of fish in shallower water. Flathead Classic veteran Shane ‘Piggy’ Gartner tops the table as best senior at the end of day 1.
A great variety of fish were boated by anglers with the top Mulloway currently 94cm, this trophy is quite a sought after category and Guy McConnell was pleased to boat the Jewie after having a difficult day with the flathead.
Day 2 looks like a different day weather wise and it will be interesting to see if the leader board gets shuffled about. There is no doubt that today favoured those teams who fished the shallower water with many of the top 10 spending time casting or trolling flats, weed edges and shallow banks.
Tomorrow is another day … enjoy the fishing
