Easter Bream Classic 2011 wrap up

A bang on gorgeous Good Friday greeted anglers in the 2011 Gold Coast Sportfishing Club Easter Bream Classic. 32 teams took to the waterways of the Gold Coast to chase their bag of 5 bream, it was great to see a good turnout of junior anglers with 9 Juniors competing in this year’s tournament.

Whilst the comp has a bit of a laid back feel the anglers certainly chase the prizes with earnest and who wouldn’t ?The top prize was a Lowrance HDS 5 Combo and $650 cash this went to team Bad Company who were family members Daniel Folley and his uncle Phil Shaw. Daniel is a regular Bream fisho and a GCSFC member and he convinced his uncle to join him for a fish on Good Friday. Daniel only put the call into Phil the night before the comp and Phil was happy he did totally enjoying his bream comp experience. Dan landed a cracker 1.16kg bream in the first 15 minutes of the morning which set up the day nicely for the pairing .They then worked their way up the Nerang River to gather their 2.92 kg bag of 5 fish, stopping off at canal entrances, rock walls and bridge pylons. Dan reported fishing Gulp Prawns and Z Man Shrimps on 1/28th TT Jig heads and a 1-3kg Pflueger Trion and 1500 Daiwa Caldia spooled up with 3lb Fireline and 4lb Sunline leader. Dan went on to take out big bream with the fish he bagged on his fifth cast of the day winning a TT Lures/Z Man Plastics prize pack valued at $450.

Second Place was taken out Team Two Chippies Nick Whyte and Wayne Peeters who were wrapped to take away the new model Lowrance Elite 5 DSI combo unit and $450 cash. Our juniors had a fantastic day all going home with prize packs thanks to TT Lures, Z Man Plastics and Berkley. It was great to see so many smiling juniors in the field and young fellas like Mick Horns son Kyron fish their first comp. Kyron and his proud Dad fished hard to take out 5th place and you couldn’t wipe the smile from Kyron’s dial. The Junior prize of a day’s fishing with Dizzy Borg was won by little James Britton.

The events like the Easter Bream are classic events ensuring anglers are eligible for Classic Grand Final places and points.
